HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University swimming and diving team faces East Carolina, Towson and Campbell at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Minges Aquatic Center.
ECU (2-1) is the lone conference opponent MU (0-2) will face on the regular-season schedule. The Herd is pitted against a CU squad that is 2-1 and a TU club that is 1-0 on the season. Saturday will mark the first time MU has competed against CU and TU.
MU will face tough competition in ECU, as the Pirates have the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week Rachel Blue and Diver of the Week Meghan Coyne, as announced Tuesday by league officials.
In its first two meets of the season, the Herd has cracked top-10 records in four events. Last week against West Virginia, freshmen Sarah Schimenti posted the 10th-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.54) and Arlie Rykosky recorded a fourth-best time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.77).
Other notable performances came in the 1-meter diving: from freshmen Maribeth Smith (6th, 230.40) and Lauren Rone (209.47). Senior Rachel Hannum posted a career-best and third-best program score in the 3-meter diving (241.65), along with Rone (6th, 222.07) and Smith (7th, 220.50).
Results will be posted on the swimming and diving page at herdzone.com following the conclusion of the meet.
