HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Thundering Herd women's basketball team is set to take on West Virginia Wesleyan in its lone exhibition game of the season, playing host to the Bobcats on Sunday at 2 p.m. inside the Cam Henderson Center.

Marshall returns four starters from last year's squad, which posted a 17-15 record. It marked the sixth consecutive non-losing season for the Herd, the longest current streak in Conference USA and tied for the top streak in program history.

Leading the way for MU are seniors Chantelle Handy and Alyssa Hammond along with junior Tynikki Crook. All three are within shouting distance of scoring 1,000 career points this season.

The Herd also returns eight other players who saw significant playing time in the MU careers. Seniors Angelica Harris and Kendra King return along with six sophomores.

West Virginia Wesleyan is coming off of a solid 20-10 record last season. The Bobcats posted an impressive 16-5 mark in WVIAC play while recording an 11-3 mark at home. They came into their own in the second half of last season, posting a 13-2 record over a 15-game stretch from January through March.

Wesleyan's top returning scorer is Lydia Bridenbaugh, who averaged 9.6 points per game in 08-09. They lost their top scoring threat from last year, Sarah Van Horn, who averaged 20.6 PPG along with 8.3 rebounds, the team leader in both categories.

Following Sunday's contest against the Bobcats, the Herd will prepare for its season opener on November 13 against Appalachian State. Marshall will play its first three games at home, taking on Big East fot Seton Hall on November 16 before facing former Mid-American Conference rival Kent State five days later.
