YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- Jenny Johnsson and five other individuals picked up personal wins to lead the Marshall University swimming and diving team to a 133-105 victory against the Youngstown State Penguins Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Natatorium.
The Herd notched its second win of the season and now moves to 2-4 on the year. With the loss, YSU falls to 0-3.
"I thought we had our best meet of the year," said head coach Leonard Kraus. "They trained well and put in better efforts and better swims. We won most of the events, which is great for the girls because it got the momentum rolling."
Posting wins for MU were Liz Greenway (1000-yard freestyle, 10:52.79), Megan Demeter (200-yard freestyle, 2:00.95), Jenny Johnsson (400-yard IM 4:36.82; 500-yard freestyle, 5:15.87), Arlie Rykosky (100-yard butterfly, 58.89), Vera Niemeyer (100-yard backstroke, 1:00.94) and Haley Holmquist (3-meter diving, 235.12).
The team also picked up its eighth win on the day with the nod in the 200-yard medley relay (1:53.27).
"We have Radford next week and this is a great stepping stone," said Kraus. "We'll be ready to train harder and be ready for that."
Marshall will be back on the road again on Nov. 14, in a tri-meet against Campbell and Radford in Radford, Va.
