CLEVELAND - The six-game road trip for the Thundering Herd women's basketball team continues as it will travel to Cleveland to face off against Cleveland State Wednesday evening at the Wolstein Center.
Marshall begins the week with a record of 2-4 following a 1-1 showing at the Pitt Thanksgiving Tournament. The Herd opened up the event with an 83-76 victory over Miami (Ohio) before falling to No. 20 Pitt by an 80-58 margin.
Four Marshall players averaged double figures in the tournament, led by Chantelle Handy's 19.0 PPG. The redshirt senior scored a game-high 22 points in the win over the RedHawks and tallied six rebounds and six assists. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
Tynikki Crook wrapped up an impressive week by averaging 17.0 PPG in Pittsburgh. That followed an 18-point performance in last Tuesday's game at Ohio. Over her previous three games, Crook has connected on 20-of-38 shot attempts while averaging 6.0 rebounds per game.
Mystee Dale scored 10.5 PPG while Alyssa Hammond averaged 10.0 points in the tournament. Dale has continued to climb up the Conference USA rankings in assists per game. The junior currently is ninth in the league, averaging 4.3 assists per game, however, she has averaged 6.25 per game over the last four contests, an average that would put her on top of the league.
Cleveland State comes into Wednesday's matchup with a 2-3 mark. The Vikings opened up the season with a 56-34 win over Ohio. They dropped three consecutive games before topping Iona, 64-58, on Friday.
The Vikings are led by a pair of senior guards; Kailey Klein and Jessica Roque. Klein is the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.6 PPG while Roque is second with 12.6. Roque was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on November 30 after averaging 19.0 PPG in two contests last week.
Wednesday's game will mark the fourth of six consecutive road games for the Herd. Next Tuesday, the Herd will travel to Washington D.C. for a tilt against George Washington before facing Morehead State on December 18. MU returns home to face UT-Martin on December 20, its final game before Christmas.
