George Washington Up Next For Herd Women

WASHINGTON - The Thundering Herd will take to the road for the fifth-consecutive game as the Marshall University women's basketball team will travel to George Washington to face off against the Colonials Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Smith Center.
Last time out, Marshall took a dominant 75-61 victory over Cleveland State, who was picked to finish second in the Horizon League. The win improved MU's record to 3-4. The Herd led by as many as 26 points in the second half before pulling its starters.
The post players for the Herd were especially dominant against the Vikings. Alyssa Hammond led all players with 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting. The redshirt senior moved a few steps closer to the 1000-point plateau as her efforts against CSU brought her career total to 962 points.
Tynikki Crook tallied her second double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 14 boards. Crook is MU's top scorer, averaging 15.0 PPG and is also the top rebounded on the Herd with 7.7 per game.
Chantelle Handy tallied 17 points while guard Mystee Dale had a career-high 13 points to wrap up the Herd's double digit scorers against CSU.
The team will look to keep the momentum going against George Washington, a squad who comes in with a 2-5 mark. After winning its first two games of the season, the Colonials has lost five straight, including losses to top 25 opponents Michigan State and Tennessee, who was ranked #5 at the time.
Tiana Myers, a sophomore guard, leads the Colonials with 12.0 PPG while Shi-Heria Shipp, a freshman, has averaged 9.0 points per contest. Shipp is also tied for the team lead in shooting, hitting 50% of her shot attempts.
After facing George Washington, the Herd will have ten days off before traveling to Morehead State on December 18. The Herd and Eagles will face off at 5:30 p.m. On December 20, the Herd will return home to take on UT-Martin at 4:30 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
