HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University swimming and diving team will host its final dual meet of the 2009 season as it hosts James Madison on Saturday at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
Marshall is coming off of a big road win against Vanderbilt last Saturday and will look to carry that momentum against a tough Bulldog squad.
"JMU is a strong team with two or three good swimmers in each event," said Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus. "The freestyle is the area that we must step up in the most if we are going to have a chance to win this meet."
Among Marshall's top performers last week were its diving group of Siobhan Schuurman, Rachel Hannum and Haley Holmquist and butterfly specialist Kayla Truswell, who came away with a win in both the 100 and 200 events.
"Again we need to have our divers perform at the level they did against Vanderbilt," Kraus said. "We also need to counter their swimmers and really need Kayla to perform well in the fly events."
Saturday's meet will also be senior day for six Marshall athletes. Hannum, Kyla Jungclaus, Samantha Noland, Camilla Overup, Schuurman and Truswell will all be competing in their final dual meet as members of the Thundering Herd.
"I am excited not only for the meet itself but also because it is the last meet for the seniors," Kraus said. "We will be sending off six women that have meant a great deal to this team and program. I am proud of all of them and it will be sad because this will be the last home meet for them. They will be missed."
