Marshall Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Season at Championships

HOUSTON -- The Marshall swimming and diving team wrapped up its season Saturday with a fifth-place finish at the Conference USA Championships. The Herd finished strong as three school records fell on the final day.
Haley Holmquist broke teammate Siobhan Schuurman's record on the platform dive, recording a score of 160.10 and a sixth-place finish. Schuurman finished in eighth and Rachel Hannum took 10th.
Schuurman will compete in March at the NCAA Zones, having qualified in the one-meter event earlier this season.
Jenny Johnsson set her second school record in as many days. The Osby, Sweden native set a new mark in the 400-yard IM Friday and came back to break her own record in the 200-yard backstroke Saturday with a time of 2:04.78.
In the 400-yard free relay, Lauren Fairbanks, Megan Demeter, Jenae Moreno and Briana Burns teamed up to set a new Marshall-best with a time of 3:31.12
Kayla Jungclaus scored three points for the Herd with a 14th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
Kristin Wheatley and Ally Melinsky went back-to-back in the 200-yard breaststroke. Wheatley finished 12th , clocking in at 2:23.24, and Melinsky came in 13th with a time of 2:23.37.
Kayla Truswell led the Herd in the 200-yard butterfly with an 11th-place finish and a time of 2:05.32. Senior Samantha Noland set a new lifetime-best in the event with a 2:09.00.
