HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After playing 10 straight games at home, the Marshall University softball team will conclude its home stand with a three-game series against Southern Miss starting Saturday March 21 at 1 p.m. EST at Dot Hicks Field.
The Golden Eagles (14-14-1) and Thundering Herd (15-8) will meet for the 11th time this weekend as Southern Miss leads the all-time series 6-4. They first met in 2006 as members of C-USA at Southern Miss as the Eagles took two out of three games.
Southern Miss currently the only team in C-USA that Marshall has not beat at home as the Eagles are 3-0 against the Herd in Huntington.
Last season, Marshall was able to take two out of three games in Hattiesburg. The two played in the C-USA tournament in 2006 as the Herd took that game 7-4 as the only neutral site game in the series.

Pitching for Southern Miss is lead by Courtney Ramos who has picked up nine wins on the season already. She leads the team with 74 K's. Behind Ramos, Samantha Davis has four wins with a 3.95 ERA.
Marshall splits its first nonconference doubleheader against Cleveland State Thursday. Both games came down to the wire with the Herd having a chance in the bottom of the seventh to take either game from the Vikings.
In game one, Marshall trailed early 2-0 but scored runs in the third and fourth to tie the game. The Herd was able to pick up the win with two runners on and a costly error by the Vikings scoring and ending the game at 3-2.
For Marshall game two came down to a big sixth inning for Cleveland State where they plated three runs giving them a 4-2 edge going into the seventh. After a home run by sophomore Melanie Stoehr (Tacoma, Wash.) cut the lead to one and a runner on second, the Herd couldn't manage to finish the comeback and falling 4-3.
