HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Thundering Herd women's golf coach Meredith Rowsey has announced the signing of Samantha DiDomenico to a National Letter of Intent.

DiDomenico, a native of Follansbee, West Virginia, will begin play next fall at Marshall University.

"I do not have anyone graduating this year," coach Rowsey said. "I think that Sam will make an immediate impact on my team. When the players see how hard she practices it should be a pretty big wake up call for them to follow suit or they will be left out.

"I do feel that she will travel next year and make her mark early on."

DiDomenico attended high school at Brooke (W.Va.) where she maintained a 3.97 GPA. She became the first female golfer in the history of her high school to receive a Division I scholarship and was also the first female golfer at her high school to play in the West Virginia Stae Golf Tournament and the first to receive a varsity letter over four seasons.

As a senior, she placed 11th out of 56 golfers at the West Virginia AAAA Class State Tournament. DiDomenico recorded 20 wins as a senior against just three losses and a tie.

"Coach Meredith Rowsey was very enthusiastic when I visited Marshall University. I felt very comfortable with the campus and the program. The Marshall University golf team maintains the highest overall team grade point average at Marshall which was a huge factor in my final school decision," DiDomenico said.

"I am looking forward to working with Coach Rowsey and feel certain that I can contribute to the continued success of the golf program at Marshall."

DiDomenico spent her high school career playing for head coach Bob DiLorenzo, the father of Phil DiLorenzo, who is currently a member of Marshall's men's golf team.

"Samantha is an all-around student-athlete at Brooke," said coach DiLorenzo. "Her hard work and dedication to golf is amazing. Samantha's drive and determination shows through in her many accomplishments both athletically and academically at Brooke."

The accounting and finance major is the daughter of Mike and Pam DiDomenico.
