Softball Concludes Regular Season at Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - The Marshall University softball team will be on the road for the final weekend of regular season play for a three-game series against Houston starting Saturday at 2 p.m. EST with a doubleheader.
The two teams enter the weekend neck and neck in the Conference USA standing with the Thundering Herd (29-17, 10-8) are in third place and the Cougars (23-22, 10-9) right behind them in fourth.
Houston leads the overall series between the two schools 8-2 and a 2-1 edge at home. Last season, the then nationally ranked Cougars team swept Marshall in Huntington as the team opened up the new Dot Hicks Field.
The Herd is coming off a pair of midweek wins against Ohio where the team hit five home runs in two games including four in the first. Freshmen Alianna Telles (Sylmar, Calif.) fell a double short of hitting for the first cycle in Marshall history in game one.
With a senior class of six, Houston brings in a powerful line up that is batting .296 in conference and the team is led by preseason player of the year, Jessica Valis. She is currently hitting .342 and leads the team in runs (32) and hits (52).
In the circle, Baillie Lott leads the team in wins with 14 but Amanda Crabtree tops the team strikeouts with 106. The Cougars are coming off a loss to No. 22 Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-3.
After the two games Saturday, the two teams will meet again Sunday for single-game at 2 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports. Gametracker will be available for all contests this weekend.
