Women's Soccer's First Residential Camp Successful

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University's head women's soccer coach Kevin Long announced the success of the Thundering Herd's first-ever residential camp. Marshall had about 30 high school aged campers on campus the weekend of May 8-10.
"I was very impressed with the level of play in our first ever residential camp," Coach Long said. "From this event, we hope to grow the camp and from this stable foundation, I look forward to seeing it develop in the coming years!"
The campers arrived on Marshall's campus and began training morning of the ninth. The weekend festivities included meals, small-sided and full-sided games, tactical training, and classroom sessions on the collegiate recruiting process and nutrition.
The Elite Camp is designed for high school aged girls who are looking to play soccer at the next level. The camp put players in a training environment similar to a college setting, with the ultimate goal to push players to the maximal playing ability. Players left camp with a greater understanding of how to play and compete at the next level.
The camp also had top-level college coaches as instructors, player evaluations and provided campers with t-shirts.
"Additionally, there were a lot of local players at the camp that included two international players, and several from Ohio, North Carolina, Kentucky and Pennsylvania," Coach Long added. "I am thrilled to see the standard they are setting for the level of play in West Virginia!"
