DAYTON, Ohio- Molly Ginger won the 2009 Dayton Women's Match Play Championship, at the Golf Club in Yankee Trace on Saturday, July 11, 2009.
Ginger started off the week with strong Stroke Play that led her to the number one spot for the weeks Match Play. Ginger won Wednesday and Thursday 6-up with five holes to go and 7-up with five holes to go respectively.
Friday's match included Conference USA foe Kathleen Glavin, sophomore from the University of Memphis, the fourth overall seed in the tournament. For the first and only time in the Championship, Ginger went the full round before defeating Glavin by one.
Saturday's championship match included Ginger (1) and Amanda Dixon (3).
Ginger gained the lead over Amanda Dixon with a birdie on the first of 36 holes and never looked back.
Ginger finished the first 18 holes of the match with one of her five birdies on the day to put herself 7-up on Dixon.
Ginger and Dixon both pared on the 28th hole which would put the match out of reach for Dixon.
Ginger lost only three holes on the day and ended the match 9-up on Dixon with eight holes to go, in spite of the match being suspended from 11:35 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. due to inclement weather.
