Women's Golf Earns C-USA Sport Academic Award

IRVING, Texas - Rice University has earned the Conference USA Institutional Excellence Award for the fourth straight year, as announced by Commissioner Britton Banowsky today.

The Institutional Excellence Award is given to the C-USA institution with the highest grade point average during the current academic year for all student-athletes in conference sponsored sports. Rice student-athletes combined for an annual GPA of 3.099, which is the highest in the Owls' four-year run.

The Sport Academic Award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the current academic year. Rice and Tulsa each produced three different teams with the highest GPA for their respective sport. The Rice women's tennis team posted the highest annual GPA of any sport at 3.748. The Tulsa men's cross country team and Memphis women's soccer team claimed their respective sport's academic award, while also earning a conference title on the course and on the field. Eight teams were repeat winners from a season ago, while nine teams showed marked improvement in their composite GPA. The following is a list of all the Sports Academic award honorees:

Marshall's women's golf team has earned the Conference USA Sport Academic Award with a collective GPA of 3.520.

MU Coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said "I'm proud of them for excelling in the classroom."

This marks the third consecutive year that The Herds women's golf team has won the C-USA Academic Award.
