Marshall Men's Basketball Announces Sept. 26 Clinic Former NBA Assistant Coach Brendan Suhr Scheduled To Serve As Featured Instructor

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.- Marshall head men's basketball coach Donnie Jones has announced that on Sept. 26, the Herd staff will host the Marshall University Coaches Clinic in the Henderson Center. The clinic begins at 10 a.m. with the first of two practices which is scheduled to run for two hours. Following lunch, Jones will begin instruction on the Marshall Style of Play at 1 p.m. After a short break, the second practice will begin at 3 p.m. and again will run for two hours. At 5 p.m., a member of the MU staff will lead Herd individual instruction for one hour to conclude the clinic. A coaches' social followed by closing comments will begin at 6 p.m.
Former NBA Assistant Coach Brendan Suhr is scheduled to serve as a featured clinician. Suhr spent 28 seasons on the NBA sidelines, most notably on Chuck Daly's Detroit Pistons' "Bad Boy" staff, winning two championships. Suhr was the head scout for the first U.S. "Dream Team" in 1992. Suhr also served on NBA staffs with the Atlanta Hawks (assistant coach, 1979-87/assistant GM-1988), Detroit (1988-92, 2000-01), the New Jersey Nets (1992-94), the Toronto Raptors (1996-97), the Orlando Magic (1997-99), and the New York Knicks (assistant coach 2004-05, 2006-08/scout 2004/Director, Player Personnel, 2004-08).
Suhr spent time in the Continental Basketball Association, serving as the president, general manager, and head coach of the Grand Rapids Hoops (1995-97). He co-owned the team from 1996-99. Suhr was the CBA's executive vice president of basketball operations and industry relations, working closely with then-CBA owner Isiah Thomas on implementing league policy. He earned CBA's Coach of Year honors in 1996.
