HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall women's golf team travels to the Bucknell Golf Club to participate in the Lady Bison Fall Classic. The tournament is a two day event, with two rounds on Saturday (36 holes) and one round on Sunday (18 holes). Shotgun starts at 8:00 a.m. Saturday.
Eleven teams will participate in the tournament including: host Bucknell, Williams & Mary, Columbia, Rutgers, Youngstown State, Lehigh, Robert Morris, Kutztown, Albany, Penn State and Marshall.
This is the Herd's first tournament of the year. Last time out MU participated in its first ever Tri-Match, hosted by Morehead State. Marshall placed second in the event, finishing behind Morehead State and in front of Eastern Kentucky.
"I am very encouraged for the fall season," said Marshall Head Coach Meredith Knight Rowsey. "This was a great way to start. The team played well and we will only improve off this."
As a team the Herd shot a 316, seven strokes behind the Eagles. The Thundering Herd was led by the play of sophomore Maria Battaglia (Uniontown, Pa.), who shot a 77 and tied for second place. Junior Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) finished just two strokes behind Battaglia, with a 79 and tied for fifth place.
"I am very proud of Marie for her lowest collegiate finish. She was in for the win, may have gotten a little ahead of herself, but she will know what to improve on next time she is in that position," Knight Rowsey said.
In last year's Lady Bison Fall Classic the Herd finished 8th out of 12 participating schools. Marshall was led by Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.), who tied in 21st place and shot a 160 for the two days.
