Cincinnati, Ohio - The Marshall University men's soccer team allowed two goals in the first ten minutes of the game and could not recover as they fell to Xavier University 2-0 on Saturday night at the Xavier University Soccer Complex.
Xavier (1-4-1) wasted little time finding the back of the net as Jake Vollmer scored on a blast from 35 yards out in the second minute of play. Just eight minutes later the Musketeers would build a two goal lead when Luke Spencer beat Marshall's Daniel Withrow as he received a through ball from Andy Dimbi and one touched it past the freshman keeper.
Marshall (3-4-1) outshot the Musketeers 11-8 and placed five shots on goal but could not beat Xavier's net minder Justin Marshall.
"We just didn't make the adjustments we needed to make tonight," head coach Bob Gray said. "The good news is we get right back at it on Wednesday at home."
The Herd plays host to Virginia Military on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Sam Hood Field.
