Glenville State Up Next For Men's Hoops

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Following a quick two-day rest, the Thundering Herd men's basketball team will be right back in action Monday evening, playing host to Glenville State at 7 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall opened up the season with a 92-69 victory over WVU Tech on Friday evening. The Golden Bears kept things close, trailing by as little as four in the second half, before the Herd pulled away in the final stanza.
A pair of returners led the way for MU as Tirrell Baines scored a team-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting while Dago Pena put forth a 17-point effort.
The new members of the Herd made their presence known, led by North Carolina State transfer Johnny Thomas. The junior recorded the first double-digit effort of his career, scoring 12 in the opener.
Sophomore DeAndre Kane scored 11 points while Johnny Higgins put up eight while dishing out a game-high seven assists.
The Pioneers of Glenville State come to Huntington with a mark of 0-1 following a Wednesday defeat at the hands of Pikeville College. Pikeville grabbed a 108-71 win over the Pioneers in Pikeville, Ky.
GSU returns a pair of starters from last year's 7-21 squad, led by Nick Dent, who averaged a team-high 14.2 PPG in 2009-10. A newcomer, senior Justin Caldwell, led the Pioneers with 17 points in the contest at Pikeville.
Caldwell is familiar to Marshall, having played at West Virginia Wesleyan last season. Wesleyan faced off in an exhibition with the Herd last season in a contest that saw Caldwell lead his team with 19 points.
Glenville State marks the second of four-straight home games to open up the season. On Saturday, the Herd will host UT-Chattanooga welcoming Jackson State to town on Monday, November 22. The first road contest of the season will be on November 27 when MU travels to Louisville
