Women's Golf Finishes Third at UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala. -Marshall women's golf's Elin Andersson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) tied for seventh at the UAB Fall Beach Blast, as the Thundering Herd earned a third place finish, its highest of the 2010-11 season, on Tuesday afternoon at the Peninsula Golf Course.
The Thundering Herd slipped on day-two after posting its lowest score of the season, 301, on Monday afternoon. MU shot a 316 in the final 18 holes to finish with a 617 (301-316=617), just four strokes behind second place Louisiana at Monroe (301-312=613). Memphis hung on to its opening round lead of 292, posting a 300 in Tuesday's round (292-300=592).
Andersson carded a team-low 78 in second round action, to capture the first top-10 finish of her career (74-78=152). Harper posted an 80 (72-80=152), as the two finished with a two-day total of 152.
Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) posted her best finish to date, tying for 14th, following her career-low round of 75 on Monday (75-81=156).
Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.) improved one stroke on day-two to card a 159 (80-79=159) in her first complete tournament of the season.
Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) dropped eight strokes off her score on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 166 (87-79=166).
Memphis's Marissa Steen took home the individual medal with a two-day total of 143 (73-70=143).
The tournament marked MU's fall season finale. The Herd will open the spring season at the MSU Ocala Spring Invite on Mar. 22-23. The tournament will be hosted by Morehead State and is set to take place in Ocala, Fla., at Juliette Falls Golf Course.
