HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Head softball coach Shonda Stanton is proud to announce the addition of two athletes to the Marshall University family, in Kaelynn Greene and Kristina Braxton. Both will join the Thundering Herd for the 2012 season.

"Kaelynn and Kristina are winners and will make an immediate impact in our program," said Stanton. "They are infectious with their personality and value their commitment to succeed at the next level."

Kristina Braxton - Utility, Bats Left, Throws Right
The Woodbridge, Va., native is a two-time First Team All-District honoree and also has a trophy case which includes: Second Team All-District, Cardinal District Player of the Year, First-Team All-Washington Post, All-Area First Team, Second Team, Honorable Mention and Second Team All-Region.

At C.D. Hylton High School, Braxton compiled a career batting average of .485 and 43 stolen bases. The righty, whose versatility between shortstop, second base and the outfield, boasted an impressive .980 fielding percentage in high school.

"Kristina is an all-around great athlete that can play both middle infield positions and in the outfield," said Stanton. "She has the range to play short, the quickness to compete at second and the athleticism to roam the outfield. She has a solid glove and poise on the field and is exactly what we are looking for in a true utility. Kristina can slap, drag or drive the ball and will be an asset from the left side of the plate. She is one of the most mature senior prospects I have encountered and will be a joy to coach."

Kaelynn Greene - Outfield, Bats Left, Throws Right
A prospect from Eastvale, Calif., held a batting average of .418 and on-base percentage of .475, with 18 stolen bases for the Scorpions Gold summer club team. In the fall, she hit at a .404 clip, had an on-base percentage of .466 and swiped 13 stolen bases for the Orange County Lionettes club team.

Also a track standout, she holds all the records at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and 100 and 200 meter sprints.

"Kaelynn is a natural in centerfield and has the ability to cover more ground than any outfielder in Marshall softball history," Stanton said. "She can flat out run and her sprinter's speed allows her to track down balls overhead, shallow and in the gap - there is not an area in the outfield that she cannot cover. With her athleticism and gritty competitiveness, she will be an exciting player to watch. Kaelynn is smart and aggressive on the bases, always wanting that next 60 feet. I cannot wait to have her make a run at single season and career stolen base records."
