Women's Basketball Hosts Cleveland State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va .- Marshall women's basketball continues its two-game home stand against Cleveland State on Saturday, Dec. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 7.p.m., at the Cam Henderson Center.



The Thundering Herd fell to 2-6 on the season after coming up just short against North Carolina A&T last Saturday. Tynikki Crook recorded her third double-double of the season, moving into 13th place all-time in Conference USA in the category. Crook scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half verse the Aggies while pulling down 12 boards in the 57-53 loss. Veronica Ruiz added 11 points and Alaya Mitchell contributed seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and six points on the night.



Crook entered the week 23rd in Division I in points per game at 19.3 and is 31st in field goal percent at .560.



Cleveland State (6-2) has produced three consecutive 19 win seasons under Kate Peterson Abiad. The Vikings come into the weekend after dropping its second road game of the season, falling to Akron, 73-64, on Saturday. Shawnita Garland netted 16 points in the loss to become the 22nd player in CSU history to score 1,000 career points. Cleveland State sent three additional players into double-figures in the contest, Shalonda Winton 19, Janelle Adams 11, Takima Keane 10.



"Cleveland State is an NCAA tournament team from last year, and is a team that has already posted six wins this season. They are extremely aggressive to the basket and have veteran leadership on their team," head coach Royce Chadwick said. "We will have to play a great basketball game to beat them."



The Thundering Herd holds the 2-1 series lead following last season's 75-61 victory.



Saturday also marks "Christmas at the Cam," Santa and Marco will be available in the concourse for picture opportunities.
