Thundering Herd Softball Hosts Valparaiso on Tuesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall University softball (13-6) will face Valparaiso (12-4) on Tuesday in a pair of contests that are slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Dot Hicks Field.

The Thundering Herd is back after finishing the weekend 3-2 at the Marshall Holiday Inn-vitational. Rebecca Gamby led the Herd at the plate after hitting at a .533 clip and boasting a team-best .611 on-base percentage.

Caitlyn Jackson would go tops on the pitching staff during the tournament with a 0.64 ERA while recording a win against Cleveland State on Saturday. The senior made four appearances and registered 11.0 innings of work for MU.

For the year, Melanie Stoehr continues to pace Marshall batters with a .392 batting average and an on-base percentage of .500. The Herd is also receiving strong assistance at the plate from Jazmine Valle (.360), Gamby (.358) and Alianna Telles (.355).

Marshall has seen depth in its pitching staff as Katie Murphree (7-4, 2.99 ERA), Caitlyn Jackson (3-2, 2.70 ERA), Rachel Rillo (2-0, 3.57 ERA) and Jessica Ferrick (1-0, 0.00 ERA) have all seen quality action thus far. Murphree is has logged a team-high 72.2 innings pitched and struck out 65 opponents.
