Marshall Softball's Jazmine Valle Earns C-USA Honors

IRVING, Texas. - Jazmine Valle of the Marshall University softball team was named to the Conference USA Second Team and All-Freshman Team as announced Tuesday by league officials.
Valle, a Lake Elsinore, Calif. native, led the 2010 Thundering Herd squad with a team-best .338 batting average (8th in C-USA), 40 RBI (T-4th in C-USA) and .601 slugging percentage (6th in C-USA). She was second on the team in hits (50), home runs (10, 8th in C-USA), on-base percentage (.405, 10th in C-USA) and total bases (89).
"Jazmine really came on strong towards the middle of the season, especially on the offensive side of things," said head coach Shonda Stanton. "I am excited to see her continued development and for her really to have a breakout year as a sophomore."
In conference play, the freshman paced the club with five home runs (2nd in C-USA), 16 RBI (4th in C-USA), 36 total bases (6th in C-USA) and a .522 slugging percentage (8th in C-USA).
For the week of April 12-18 Valle was named C-USA Hitter of the Week. During that time, she hit at a .500 clip (8-for-16) with a .619 on-base percentage, a 1.000 slugging percentage and nine RBI. She hit safely in five of Marshall's six wins in non-conference play against Ohio, Wright State and Dayton. The slugger posted her best performances of the week in a doubleheader against WSU, combining to go 5-for-6 with two doubles and five RBI.
Valle has the distinction of being the only softball player this season to be named a Marshall Student-Athlete of the Week multiple times - earning the accolade on March 30th and April 20th.
