Eight Conference USA schools - East Carolina, Marshall, Memphis, Rice, Southern Miss, Tulane, UAB and UTEP - each fielded teams that were recognized. Rice led the pack with six teams ranked among the top 10 percentile of all teams for all sports nationally, and all six repeated the recognition from one year ago. The Owls football team was one of only five FBS teams to be recognized. Conference USA men's cross country champion UTEP also showed its success in the classroom and on the course.

"We are very proud of the success we are seeing in this area," C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said. "Our Academic Progress Rates continue to rise, and half of our student-athletes have grade point averages of 3.0 or better. This is at the heart of what we do in intercollegiate athletics."

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. A complete listing is below of teams receiving the Public Recognition Award. For more information on the Academic Progress Rate, please log on to www.ncaa.org.
