STARKVILLE, Miss. - Marshall University softball player Rebecca Gamby was named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region second team, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Thursday afternoon.

This marks the first time the sophomore catcher has earned the accolade, which also makes her eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.

"This is a very deserving honor for Gamby," said head coach Shonda Stanton. "With her earlier academic recognition and now being recognized as one of the best catchers in the region, she has had an extremely successful sophomore campaign as a student-athlete."

Gamby finished the 2010 campaign with a third-best batting average on the Thundering Herd squad, hitting at a .318 clip. She posted a team-best 12 doubles and an on-base percentage of .419. In Conference USA action she paced the Herd with a .286 batting average and an on-base percentage of .395.

Earlier in May, the Mount Victory, Ohio native was named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team. She has also advanced to the national ballot for All-America status for this accolade as well.

"I am excited to see her build on this success and continue to be a dominant force for us over the next two seasons," Stanton said.
