IRVING, Texas - Junior Michaela Kissell has been named Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, while seniors Deanna Bailey and Thaddea Lock were recognized as the Outstanding Doubles Team of the Conference USA Championship, as announced by league officials Thursday.
Kissell continues to garner conference awards. On top of being named Newcomer of the Year, the junior was named First-Team All-Conference USA for both singles and doubles, announced yesterday.
The transfer from Miami (FL) was 18-5 in singles and 14-9 in doubles during her first spring season for the Thundering Herd. Kissell will partake in the NCAA Championships in both singles and doubles (with teammate Dominika Zaprazna), May 26-31, hosted by the University of Georgia.
After going 3-0 from third doubles last weekend at the C-USA championship, Bailey and Lock were named the Most Outstanding Doubles Team of the Championship.
The twosome started the weekend with a victory over UCF's duo, 9-7. In the semifinal match against SMU, the senior pairing won in dominant fashion, 8-2. The tandem ended their doubles career by topping off a perfect weekend with an 8-5 triumph against Tulsa in the championship match. Marshall won the doubles point in all three tournament matches.
Together, Bailey and Lock compiled 14 wins together compared to just four losses this season. Overall, they each posted a doubles mark of 19-6.
