Herd Softball Hosts Final Home Series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University softball team (24-27-1, 3-17-1 C-USA) will close its regular season in a three-game conference series against Tulsa (28-20, 11-6 C-USA) on Saturday and Sunday at Dot Hicks Field.

The Thundering Herd is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch for Saturday's doubleheader and will play a single game Sunday starting at noon. MU softball will celebrate senior day on Sunday prior to the start of the noon contest.

For the season, MU is paced by freshman Jazmine Valle, who holds a team-best .329 batting average and 38 RBI. In Conference USA games, Valle is tops in RBI (14), slugging percentage (.443) and tied for a club-high four home runs alongside Alianna Telles.

Telles brings support offensively, leading the squad with 33 runs scored, 12 home runs, 98 total bases and a .583 slugging percentage.

Katie Murphree (15-15) leads the Herd pitching staff with a 2.75 ERA and 184 strikeouts in 196.0 innings pitched.

The Golden Hurricane look to Lauren Lindsay at the plate, who leads the team with a .397 batting average, 44 runs, 56 hits, 13 doubles, 17 home runs, a .851 slugging and .525 on-base percentage.

As a pitching staff, Tulsa has a 2.80 ERA and is guided in the circle by Jackie Lawrence (13-7) who has a 2.67 ERA in 141.2 innings pitched.

Saturday marks Congrats Grad Day: All graduating seniors and their families are invited to come spend the day with Marshall softball.

Sunday MU softball will celebrate senior day with an exclusive poster giveaway and post-game senior autograph sessions.

Sunday also marks Mother's Day: a free gift will be provided to mothers and daughters while supplies last.
