HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After joining the Marshall University swimming and diving program during the 2009-10 season as an assistant coach, Russell Hunt has been named the Thundering Herd's Interim Head Coach for the 2010-11 campaign.
"This is an exciting time for Marshall's swimming and diving program," said Hunt. "I'm proud to be a part of the rich tradition here in Huntington, to be working with such accomplished students and I see great potential in this young, talented team."
Hunt came to Marshall after serving as the assistant coach at Colgate University from 2008-09. During that time he coached the program's first female NCAA Division I championship participant, five Patriot League individual champions and saw the women's team capture a league title after remaining undefeated during the regular season.
Prior to Colgate he was an assistant at Ohio Northern University from 2005-08 where he produced an Academic All-American, the program's first male NCAA participant and saw the men's and women's teams capture their third-consecutive regular season conference championships.
The 17-time All-American and 10-time national champion was a three-time letter winner at Kenyon College and helped lead Kenyon to three of its 31-straight NCAA Division III national championship titles. He received his juris doctorate at Ohio Northern in 2008 from the Pettit College of Law after earning his bachelor's degree in anthropology from Kenyon in 2005.
