Herd Swimming and Diving Signs Eight

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University swimming and diving interim head coach Russell Hunt announced the signing of eight athletes on Tuesday afternoon.

"Our program is thrilled to welcome in these nine young women," said head coach Russell Hunt. "It is a diverse class that includes state champions, state record holders and national team members."

Those of the 2010 signing class who will join early signee Victoria Mesner were: Tiffany Aeling, Tara Banks, Kayla Edwards, Sarah Kay, Madison Lawhorn, Heather Moore, Kimberly Recinella and Frankie Roman.

"We look forward to this class having an immediate impact in and out of the water," said Hunt. "The freshman group has already established itself as a group of young women with a tremendous desire to be successful. They are all determined to be a part of a winning program - a direction in which this young, new team is headed."

Tiffany Aeling | Swimming | Columbus, Ohio
Four year letterwinner at Bishop Hartley HS under coach Tony Phillips. A four time All-CCL honoree, district and state qualifier, three-time All-Ohio honoree and district champion in the 200 and 500 freestyle (2010), 200 and 400 freestyle relay (2010) and finished third in state in 400 freestyle relay. Also swam for the Reynoldsburg Marlins Summer League team.

Tara Banks | Swimming | Centreville, Va.
Swam at Westfield HS and qualified for state three out of her four years. Was named WHS Rookie of the Year and also made All-Stars for the summer league with Curl Burkes Swim Club. Swims freestyle and backstroke.

Kayla Edwards | Diving | Troy, Mich.
Four year letterwinner at Athens HS under coach Kate Geeraets. In the one-meter dive, she finished sixth place in the Oakland Athletics Association League, 10th at regionals and 15th at counties. Also dove for Legacy Diving for coach Larry Albright.

Sarah Kay | Swimming | Cape Town, South Africa
Attended Reddam House Constantia where she was a team captain under coach Norma Schooling. Selected to the South African National Team for the summer of 2010. Was a member of the Western Cape Provincial Swimming Team for eight years and captain at the South African Interschool Competition in 2008-09. In 2008, was a finalist in the 200 butterfly in the Olympic Trials, a fourth-place finisher at FINA World Cup Short Course Championships in the 200 butterfly and a third-place medalist at the South African Short course Swimming Championships. Took first-place finishes in 100 and 200 butterfly at the CANA Zone 4 Competition, was a silver medalist in 200 butterfly at Commonwealth Trials and South African Nationals Swimming Meet while finishing sixth in the 100 butterfly.

Madison Lawhorn | Swimming | Baltimore, Ohio
Went to Liberty Union HS where she swam for Brad Burgett. Was the 2010 Ohio State 100 breaststroke champion and record holder and finished third at state in the 100 butterfly. Lawhorn was named All-Ohio during all four years of high school and also the Fairfield County Swimmer of the Year.

Heather Moore | Swimming | Roswell, Ga.
Went to Lassiter HS where she was a Honor Student and Scholar Athlete all four years. Helped lead her team to three Georgia state championships from 2008-10. She was a Georgia Zone Team qualifier and captain in 2009 and qualified in 2009 and 10 for Junior Nationals. Moore was also named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in 2009 and 10.

Kimberly Recinella | Swimming | Cincinnati, Ohio
Attended Mount Notre Dame HS and was team captain during her senior campaign. A four-time Girls Greater Cincinnati League All-Conference honoree and Ohio District qualifier. Was a state qualifier her freshman, sophomore and junior years. Member of the Countryside YMCA National Team, Cincinnati Marlins (2001-09) and Countryside Torpedoes (2009-present).

Frankie Roman | Swimming | Abingdon, Md.
Swam at Patterson Mill HS and for the North Baltimore Aquatic Club for coach John Cadigan. In 2010 recorded qualifying times at the ASC Senior Open in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke.
