Women's Golf Opens Tournament Play at Bucknell

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall women's golf team opens tournament action at the Bucknell Women's Invitational on Sept. 11-12 in Lewisburg, Pa. at the Bucknell Golf Club.
The two day event consists of 36 holes of continuous play on Saturday, followed by the final 18 on Sunday. Day one will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Defending tournament champions, William & Mary will be in attendance again this year, along with Rutgers, Radford, Siena, Navy, Cleveland State, Oakland, Lehigh, Kutztown, Robert Morris, St. Francis (N.Y.), St. Francis (Pa.), Seton Hall, Hofstra and tournament-host Bucknell.
The Herd earned a second place finish at the tournament last fall after improving six strokes on day two to compile a 929 on the weekend. Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.) and Andrea Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) each shot a team best 73 in the final round to position themselves tied for third and tied for eighth, respectively.
Representing MU this weekend will be Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio), Rachel Halloran (Leawood, Kan.), Elin Andersson (Stockholm, Sweden), and making their first tournament appearances freshmen Allison Harper (Columbus, Ohio) and Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio).
The Thundering Herd commenced its season at the Morehead State Tri-Match on Aug. 29. Harper tied for first before losing on the second playoff hole to Morehead's Marisa Kamelgarn. Harper shot a 71 in her first collegiate action. Andersson finished tied for ninth, carding a career-best 76.
