HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall women's basketball looks to put its matchup against WVU in the past and rebound from a three game skid as it travels to Orlando, Fla., to resume Conference USA action versus UCF.
"UCF is a very good basketball team. They are very athletic, very much a guard oriented team, they play tremendous defense and really make you earn every single point that you get. It will be a big challenge for our team," head coach Royce Chadwick said. "We are a little shorthanded, a little bit more so then we have been in the past but we'll have our seven kids who will be ready to go."
Since defeating UTEP on Jan. 9th, Marshall (5-12, 1-3 C-USA) has hit a slump, shooting 34-of-141 (24.1 %) from the floor and 8-of-36 (22.2%) from behind the arc. The Herd looks to jump start its offense on Sunday against a UCF team that is allowing 63.2 points per game this season.
"You are only as good as your last game and we are excited to have another opportunity to play. We'll be prepared for this Sunday and then on Monday we'll be as good as our last game, which is Sunday," said Chadwick.
Tynikki Crook snapped her 16 game double-digit scoring streak with three points and three rebounds against West Virginia on Wednesday, however the senior forward still averages a conference leading 17.1 points per game this season.
Adrian Randall fought for a pair of career-highs in Charleston, recording three blocks while pulling down 11 rebounds. Randall also chipped in five points and one steal on the night.
UCF (10-8, 3-2 C-USA) snapped its five game win streak with back-to-back losses to SMU, 70-63, and Memphis, 74-53. D'Nay Daniels is averaging a team-leading 15.5 points per game during the streak, to go along with 8.5 rebounds.
The Thundering Herd grabbed a 74-60 win against the Knights in the Cam Henderson Center on Jan. 8th last season before dropping two straight to UCF, including a 59-57 overtime loss in the opening round of the C-USA tournament. However, Marshall clings to its 7-5 series lead coming into Sunday's contest.
