Herd Softball Excels in the Classroom

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- In historic fashion, the Marshall University softball team has continued to record a team grade point average above a 3.0 every semester under head coach Shonda Stanton's leadership. Softball, among other fellow student-athletes in Marshall's 14 sports, will be honored on Saturday during the men's basketball game against East Carolina.
Fans can watch the presentation shortly after halftime of the basketball game, which is set to tip-off at 7 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.
"It is great to have all the student-athletes who have performed academically be recognized at the game," said Stanton. "I am really proud of our team's commitment in the classroom and now look forward to transferring that success onto the field this season."
Of the 22-player roster, 17 athletes recorded a 3.0 grade point average or better during the Fall 2010 semester. Jessica Ferrick, Alysia Hively, Jessica Hughes and Melanie Stoehr each recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
