Softball's Jazmine Valle Named to Preseason All-Conference USA Team

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Jazmine Valle of the Marshall University softball team was named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team as announced by league officials Wednesday afternoon.
"Jazmine is an impact player and we look for her to put up big numbers," said head coach Shonda Stanton. "It is nice for her to receive this recognition. Our coaching staff believes in this group and we are pleased with what we have seen so far. This serves as a great motivation and we are going to make some noise in Conference USA."
Valle, who was voted by her peers as a team captain for the 2011 season, had a breakout freshman campaign last year in which she earned a spot on the C-USA All-Conference Second Team.
At the conclusion of the 2010 season she led the team in batting average, RBI and slugging percentage while starting in 53 of 55 games played at third base. In conference play, Valle led the team in home runs, RBI, total bases, slugging percentage and assists and was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the week of April 12-18.
"We have three new faces in the circle that are going to make a tremendous impact and we have players with starting experience in every position but one," Stanton continued. "This team has been working hard and we are ready to be tested."
Valle and the Thundering Herd softball team will open the season on Feb. 11 in Tampa, Fla. at the South Florida Wilson-DeMarini Tournament.
