Herd Softball Completes Sweep of App State With Seven-Run 2nd

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Softball (28-10, 10-2 SBC) rallied with seven runs in the 2nd inning to finish off the sweep of App State Saturday at Dot Hicks Field. The Herd will enter Easter in sole possession of 1st place in the Sun Belt Conference.
In a weekend that was billed as the league's top two home run hitting teams, the Herd gave up four in the Top of the 2nd, before answering with the seven-run rally, including two home runs from Chandler Hoskins and Tia Titi.
Hoskins, Titi, and fellow sophomore Ava Blake all had weekends to remember. After a 3-for-3 day Saturday, Blake went 7-for-10 (.700) from the plate against App. Hoskins went 5-for-10 (.500), hitting a homer each day including a three-run shot Saturday to cut the deficit to one. Titi hit a long ball each day as well, going 6-for-11 from the plate.
"It was really nice to see our offense be themselves this weekend, we responded in a lot of innings, when they scored, we scored again," Coach Zerkle said. "We put up seven after App State put up four, that was really impressive. Just proud of them for sticking to it and getting the sweep, that is hard to do in the Sun Belt."

Marshall had 12 hits total Saturday, including five in the 2nd.
