Coach Morgan Zerkle

  • Head Coach Morgan Zerkle is in her 3rd season as head coach at her alma mater. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017).
  • Marshall vaulted up to a 2nd place finish in the Sun Belt Conference in season two under Zerkle. The Herd improved its win total by six games with five more SBC victories from the season prior.
  • Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - plays professionally for the AUSL's Chicago Bandits. She is also on the active Team USA Softball roster.

MARSHALL NOTES

  • Marshall is ranked No. 30 in RPI which leads the SBC. The Herd is tied atop the league through nine conference games with South Alabama.
  • The Herd has three pitchers with a sub-3.00 ERA (Jules King, Paige Maynard, Maddie Veal). The trio has 13 complete games with at least seven wins apiece. King is one of four pitchers in the conference with at least 10 wins and four saves - making her one save away from setting a single-season program record.
  • Sophomore Sydni Burko continues to lead the team with a .393 average. Her 14 home runs are tied for 2nd in the SBC. Burko was named by Softball America as a Mid-Season Top Third Baseman Tuesday for the month of April.

ABOUT APP STATE

  • Senior pitcher Sophie Moshos posts a 2.69 ERA with 10 victories. Her and freshman Camryn Fisher have pitched 196.2 of the team's 205 total innings pitched.
  • Marshall has a 10-4 advantage all-time in the series. The Mountaineers took the series last season in Boone on a walk-off extra inning grand slam in the rubber match.
