Marshall in Eighth Place after Opening Round

GULF SHORES, Ala.- Day one action has drawn to a close at the 2011 UAB Beach Blast women's golf tournament, and at the moment, the ladies of the Thundering Herd golf team are sitting in eighth place with a total team score of 338.
The Herd is 38 strokes off of leader Memphis, and will hope to make up some ground during day-two action at the Peninsula Golf Club. Last tournament's standout golfer, Allison Harper, was forced to withdraw from the tournament, meaning the Herd was carried by first round 80s from golfers Korakat Simsiriwong and Samantha DiDomenico. The pair sits tied for 18th place with a host of other competitors, while Rachel Thompson's 84 and Caitlyn Morrone's 94 have them tied for 29th and 55th places respectively.
Action will resume tomorrow morning, and conclude when the 60-person field has completed the 18-hole round.
