TERRA HAUTE, Ind.- Serving as Marshall University's first representative at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in over 30 years, senior runner Matt Schiffbauer crossed the finish line of both the race and his career with a top-150 finish in the 252 person field at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course on Monday afternoon.

The Morgantown, W.Va., native was the lone representative for the Thundering Herd at the meet, and finished with a 149th place 10k time of 31:10.8 to draw an end to the 2011 season. The placement marked the first time that Schiffbauer did not finish in the top-10 at a meet this year, but comes after the senior did well to reach the championship and represent Marshall on cross country's biggest stage.

"We hoped for a little better finish for Matt but he still beat 103 of the best cross country runners in the nation," said Head Coach Jeff Small. "He has completed one of the best seasons and careers in Marshall history."

Arizona's Lawi Lalang finished first overall with a time of 28:44.1, while Wisconsin, who had five runners finish in the top-35, took first place as a team.

With Schiffbauer now finished, the entire Herd cross country team has concluded the 2011 season and will look to continue training in anticipation of the 2012 season and the track and field season that begins in one month's time.
