Pitts Named Cousy Award Candidate

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall senior guard Damier Pittswas named a candidate for the 2012 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award on Monday.
The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in college basketball.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Pitts is averaging 14.1 points per game for the 7-2 Thundering Herd. He ranks second in Conference USA with 4.8 assists per game and is among the leaders in three-point shooting at 38.0 percent.
Pitts has scored in double-figures in eight of Marshall's nine games played this season including a season-high 25 points in the Herd's win over Iona on Dec. 11.
The original list of 59 nominees will be narrowed down to a final 20 by Jan. 1, final 10 by Feb. 1 and final five by March 1.
Previous winners of the Bob Cousy Award have included Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph's), Raymond Felton (North Carolina), Dee Brown (Illinois), Acie Law (Texas A&M), DJ Augustin (Texas), Ty Lawson (North Carolina), Greivis Vasquez (Maryland) and last year's recipient Kemba Walker (Connecticut).
