NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 54 Marshall University tennis team won every singles and doubles match as the Thundering Herd blanked Old Dominion University Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center, 7-0.
The Herd improved its record to 10-2 overall with the win and also completed the weekend sweep of Colonial Athletic Association member schools. MU topped No. 67 William & Mary on Saturday in Williamsburg, 4-3.
Marshall took the doubles point in relatively easy fashion, winning two-of-three matches by a mark of 8-2. For the third time in their last four contests, No. 26 Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna won in first doubles, 8-2. Catherine Kellner and Maria Voscekova also won by that score in second doubles, while Kara Kucin and Karli Timko took an 8-7 decision in third doubles against Pires/Ivanova.
Singles action also presented little trouble for Marshall as MU won on every court in straight sets. In the most competitive match of the day, Catherine Kellner nipped Diana Ivanova in second singles, 7-6, 7-6. On the other five courts, Marshall won a combined 60 games, compared to just 19 for Old Dominion.
"I Thought we did a good job of coming off yesterday and competing hard today," head coach John Mercer said. "It was a good way to end the road trip."
The Herd now turns its attention to Eastern Kentucky University for a match that will take place next Friday, February 25th, at the Huntington Tennis Club. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
