MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Head coach John Mercer collected his 150th career victory as the No. 55 Marshall University Tennis team defeated West Virginia University for a tenth consecutive time on Friday at the Ridgeview Tennis Club.

"We were very flat today, but it's hard coming off the national tournament," Mercer said. "Our girls did a good job getting the win and toughing it out. It was good to see us win in every spot. We have to put this one behind us and get in a good frame of mind for Virginia Tech on Sunday."

The Thundering Herd (6-1) now holds a 12-3 advantage in the all-time series with WVU and also handed the Mountaineers their third straight loss, dropping them to 1-5.

The Herd swept through doubles to take a 1-0 advantage heading into singles. MU has compiled an overall record of 16-4 in doubles action this season.

On court one, No. 63 Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna moved to 7-0 as they duo topped Chupa/Cardenas by a score of 8-6. Second doubles action saw Catherine Kellner and Maria Voscekova defeat Pettersson/Mathis, 8-3. Court three saw Kara Kucin and Karli Timko win an 8-6 decision against Tanik/Pilsbury

First and second singles were won in straight sets as Kissell dropped just one game to Tanik, winning 6-0, 6-1, and Zaprazna winning on court two against Mathis, 6-1, 6-2. Kellner on court three and Kristina Koprcina on court four each won in three sets. Voscekova won her match in a second set tie-break, and Kucin won on court six in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

The Herd is back in action on Sunday as MU travels to Blacksburg for a match with Virginia Tech. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
