HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Shonda Stanton and crew head to Houston over the weekend to take on the UH Cougars as the Marshall University softball team gets back into the swing of Conference USA action.
Saturday's doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. (EST) while Sunday's contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
After a bye-week from C-USA play that was capped with the Thundering Herd rallying to defeat Ball State 8-6 on Sunday afternoon via a Bri Anna Hope grand slam and a three-run homer from Taylor Winton, MU will face a Houston squad that is 21-12 overall and 5-4 in conference.
Houston's squad has racked up numerous awards this season, including a brief stint on the Top 25 rankings in February. The Cougars are led by standout pitcher Amanda Crabtree who has been three times named C-USA Pitcher of the Week as the senior averages 6.39 strikeouts per game. Reflective of her 12-6 record and 1.14 ERA overall, Crabtree combines with Donna Bourgeois' 0.32 ERA in conference games to give the Herd a tough challenge for the series.
At the dish, the trio of Brooke Lathan, Melissa Gregson and Katy Beth Sherman are tops on the squad with conference batting averages of .417, .400 and .303, respectively. For the season, Gregson has a team best eight home runs and 22 RBI.
Marshall's offense has been a collective group effort all season as various athletes lead in statistical categories. Jazmine Valle has notched a club-best 23 hits and five doubles and Rebecca Gamby rings in with an impressive seven home runs and 20 RBI.
GameTracker will be provided for the series as well as live video for All-Access subscribers.
