Final Stats

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball falls to 15-28 overall on the year with a 9-1, six-inning loss against Morehead State on Tuesday afternoon. The Herd remains at home to host Southern Miss on Friday and Saturday.

The Thundering Herd's Andi Williamson garnered the loss after a tough opening frame, dropping her to 5-10. Ashley Imperial picked up the win for the Eagles, improving her to 7-13 overall in the six inning one-strikeout performance.

Top hitter on the board for MU was Alianna Telles, who chalked up two hits on the day.

A dooming two-out rally by Morehead State (18-27) in the first inning saw the Herd downed into a 3-0 hole in the early goings.

Rebecca Butler got things started the opening stanza with a double to center field that scored Kayla Brill. Kayla Ashbrook then made it a 3-0 game with a homer to left field, plating Butler on the shot.

Alysia Hively broke up Morehead's shot of a shutout in the bottom of the frame with a single up the middle that plated pinch runner Amanda Lara - who was on courtesy of a Rebecca Gamby double to right center one at-bat earlier.

After the Herd's pitching change from Williamson to Erika Bennett in the first, the board remained unlit for both squads through the fifth inning with Imperial holding strong for the Eagles.

In the sixth, MSU added insurance in a 5-1 lead off another homer - this time from Stephanie Etter, with a two-run shot to left that scored pinch runner Anna Sommer. Marshall then elected to call up Natalee Pulver from the bullpen with one out on the board as Bennett left after 4.2 innings clocked and two strikeouts.

Brill sparked the games second deadly two-out rally with a RBI-infield single. Errors aided MSU as it proceeded to load the bases and quickly clear them when three additional runs crossed home unearned, allowing the Eagles to advance to the bottom of the sixth ahead 9-1.

Imperial and the MSU defense made quick work of the Herd during the frame, going three-up three-down to secure a 9-1 run rule in six.

The Thundering Herd will host Southern Miss in a three-game series beginning with a 2/4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday. The final contest of the series is slated for a 12 p.m. start on Saturday. GameTracker will be available for the series by accessing the Marshall softball schedule page - also for purchase is live video feed through All Access.
