GREENVILLE, N.C. - Marshall University softball wrapped up the 2011 campaign at the Conference USA Championship on Thursday morning when the Herd fell 10-0 to second-seeded Tulsa at ECU Softball Stadium.

With the loss Marshall finished the 2011 season with a final record of 19-33-1 as Tulsa improved to 42-12 overall and advances to the second round of the C-USA tournament on Friday with the win.

Four pitchers made an appearance in the circle for the Thundering Herd, with Andi Williamson garnering the loss, dropping her to a final 7-12 record on the year. Rebecca Gamby and Melanie Stoehr registered MU's only hits of the game, both going 1-for-2 at the dish.

After two innings of an unlit scoreboard, Tulsa tallied the game's first pair of runs in the bottom of the third after Samantha Cobb doubled to center and plated Kelly Chapman and Caitlin Everett. The Thundering Herd then brought in Rachel Rillo who replaced Williamson on the rubber after she scattered two hits in 2.0 innings worked.

The Golden Hurricane chalked up another run in the next at-bat with an RBI from Lacey Middlebrooks brought around Jill Barrett to carry a 3-0 advantage heading into the fourth.

TU went on to use a seven-run, five-hit inning to command a 10-0 lead in the fourth forcing Marshall to burn through its bullpen using Erika Bennett before calling in Natalee Pulver to work the Herd out of further damage.

Marshall eventually fell in five innings 10-0, as Aimee Creger picked up the shutout and her 23rd win of the year after 5.0 innings pitched and nine strikeouts. Tulsa's Cobb finished the game with a team-best 2-for3 performance at the plate, knocking in three RBI and one run scored.
