Cross Country Preparing for Vanderbilt Test

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Marshall men's and women's cross country teams are heading east this weekend to participate in the Commodore Cross Country Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University at Percy Warner Park.
This year's meet will mark the first time the Thundering Herd has participated in the event, which is set to start with the men's 8000 meter race on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. The ladies race will follow shortly thereafter at 9:30 with a 5000 meter event of its own.
The Commodore Classic will feature 20 teams, and will honor the top finishing school and top 20 finishing individuals with awards.
This event will be the Marshall cross country teams' second of the year, following their defeats at the Eastern Kentucky University Relays two weekends ago. Senior Matt Schiffbauer led the Marshall men at that event with a 4th place finish, while junior Leslie Thomas was the top lady with a 7th place result. Both Schiffbauer and Thomas will hope to once again lead their teams out onto the trails in an effort to clinch victory for the Herd.
After this meet, the Marshall cross country teams will next see action at the Greater Louisville Classic on October 1st.
