BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - Marshall Volleyball fought back from a two set deficit to win the third set and keep the fourth set close, but UAB held on to finish the match 3-1 (19-25, 9-25, 26-24, 20-25).
Marshall moves to 2-10 with the loss and 1-1 in Conference USA play. UAB remains unbeaten in the C-USA with a 2-0 record and improves to 11-2 with the victory.
Despite losing the first two sets to the top contenders in Conference USA, Marshall rebounded back to win the third set 26-24 after two tremendous blocks and a service ace helped the Thundering Herd secure the final three points of the game.
In the fourth set, Marshall held a lead for 15 points, but UAB took over the game with the score tied at 20 and rallied to win five straight points, ending the set and giving UAB a 3-1 victory over the Herd.
"Outside of set two, it was a very tough match," commented Coach Jacobs after the contest. "UAB is very confident and it showed down the stretch in all three tight sets. I'm proud of how we attacked them and our defense was as good as it's been. I believe we really took a step forward tonight."
Cameron Yoho's nine kill performance pushed the senior middle-blocker over 500 kills in her career. Abby Tomas led the team in kills with 16, four of which came in the third set win. Desirre Wilkerson was the most productive defender at the net, recording five blocks (1 solo, 4 assisted) and Sacha Byous-McConnell followed closely with four blocks (1 solo, 3 assisted).
