Final Stats

El Paso, Texas - Marshall University's women's soccer squad endured a 1-0 defeat at the hands of UTEP on Friday night in El Paso, Texas. The loss extends the Miners six-game winning streak at home, while giving The Herd its first conference loss of the 2011-12 season.

Marshall fell in its first conference game thanks in part to Tess Hall's penalty kick at the 26-minute mark in the first half. She converted the free kick, giving Hall her fourth goal of the season along with the only goal the Miners would need to grab the 'W'.

For The Herd Angela DeSumma (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East HS) tallied three shots, with one being on goal. Sarah Vinson (Amelia, Ohio/Amelia HS) recorded two shots, while Megan Tabler (Ashland, Ky./Russell HS) managed a shot-on-goal.

Freshman Betsy Haugh (Earlysville, Va./Albemarle HS) saved six shots in the net for Marshall. Haugh currently is averaging over five saves per game.

The loss drops MU to 2-6-1 on the season and a 0-1-0 record in the Conference USA, while UTEP improves to 7-2-1 (1-0-0 C-USA). Marshall looks to rebound against Colorado College Sunday against the hosting Tigers. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
