Huntington, W.Va. - Marshall University's women's golf team travels to Lexington, Kentucky this weekend to take part in the University of Kentucky Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational held at The University Club of Kentucky. The 16-team, 54-hole tournament will showcase more than 80 golfers throughout three days of play on the 6,360-yard, par-72 Big Blue Course. Notable teams include: Florida Southern, Illinois, Jacksonville St., Kentucky, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Mississippi St., and Central Florida.

Traveling for The Herd in its third match of the 2011-12 season will be Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS), Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Ashland HS), Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va./Brooke HS), Korakot "Korn" Simsiriwong (Thailand/Starkville Academy), and Kristyn Morrone (Pinehurst, N.C./Texarkana JC). Caitlyn Morrone (Pinehurst, N.C./Texarkana JC) will also be participating individually for MU.

In the two previous matches Simsiriwong has led Marshall firing a 75 in the 18-hole dual against Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State, while shooting a 225 on the 54-hole match at the Bucknell Invitational. Harper has followed Korn in each meet, as the sophomore is currently averaging 76.5 shots each round. Samantha DiDomenico has averaged 78 strokes throughout the four rounds played, while Rachel Thompson averages 81.25 strokes each round.

Head Coach Meredith Knight Rowsey noted, "This tournament will showcase the toughest competition we'll face throughout the entire fall schedule. Alongside that, this course has proven to be very challenging in years past. I am looking for our squad to build on the lessons they've taken away from the previous two meets and strive for improvement. A solid performance in this weekend's tournament would be exactly what our team needs to make a jump in the rankings."

Live scoring via Golfstat will be available every three holes throughout the three-day tournament here.
