HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall's swimming and diving squad will participate in its first dual-meet of the year as it hosts Youngstown State Friday at 3 p.m. in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.

The Thundering Herd is coming off a strong runner-up performance in the second annual West Virginia State Games last week at home. Strong performances by Madison Lawhorn, Kacey Preun and Lauren Rone helped Marshall kick-off its season under first-year head coach Bill Tramel.

Lawhorn was extremely impressive during the two-day event. The junior had six top-10 finishes individually and was a member of four third place relay teams. The Baltimore, Ohio native had the best Marshall time in four of her individual events while never finishing outside of the top-10 in all of her events.

Preun picked up from her strong first season with Herd by winning the 200 breaststroke, an event she has now won eight times and yet to lose while swimming for the Herd. She also tallied three third place finishes during the State Games.

In diving, Lauren Rone qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships for the second straight year and the third time in her career with a first place finish in the one-meter event. She is just the second Marshall diver to qualify for Zones three or more times.

Friday's meet will also be the first dual-meet for the visiting Penguins. They competed in the Tom Stubbs Relays this past Saturday in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The Herd is undefeated all-time in dual-meet action against Youngstown State, with 10-0 advantage over the Penguins. Last year, Marshall won 172-128 over YSU.

Admission for the meet is free. Be sure to check HerdZone.com for results and a recap following Friday's action.
