Team Notes
This is the seventh straight season-opening win for the Thundering Herd.
47 points are the least amount of points allowed by Marshall in a season opener since 34 by Fairmont State in 1950-51.
The 34 points difference is the largest since MU won by 45 points over Glenville State (92-69) on Nov. 15, 2010.
The point difference is the largest in a season-opening win since 2008-09 when the Herd beat West Virginia Tech by 53.
This is largest margin of victory and fewest points allowed for any Tom Herrion coached team in a season-opener.
The Herd, under coach Herrion improves to 5-0 all-time on Friday's, 13-1 when it shoots 50 percent from the floor, 36-5 when it makes more free throws then the opposition, 15-2 when the opponent scores less than 60 points and 8-1 when it scores 80-89 points.
Marshall improves to 14-3 in non-conference home games under Herrion.
The Herd has now won 27 straight non-conference games when scoring 80 or more points. Its last lost with 80 or plus was Nov. 18, 2005 when it fell 91-81 to Evansville.
Individual Notes
18 points from DeAndre Kane is the most for the junior in a season-opener.
10 points via Nigel Spikes is most for him in a season-opener and games played in November.
Five steals by Spikes is a new career high (3, last vs. UCF 2/8/11).
