Game Notes:
Marshall took its first lead of the game at 16:23 in the second half off a Dennis Tinnon dunk. In the process, the Herd used a 16-1 run to start the half an 18-1 run in total to take and build its lead.
Houston did not score a field in the second half until the 13:15 mark.
Houston shot nine percent from beyond the three point mark, the lowest for a Marshall opponent this season.
Houston has been outscored in the second half in five straight games.
Damier Pitts has now been the Herd's leading scorer for five games in a row. It is his eight straight game with double-digit points.
Pitts was 0-for 6 from three-point range. It is the first time he has not made a three-pointer in a game this season. It also ends a streak of 25 consecutive home games with a made three-pointer. A streak that started during his sophomore season.
Individual & Team Notes
Shaquille Johnson tied Darryl Merthie for the career games mark with 126. Damier Pitts moved out of a tie for ninth to site alone with 115 games played. Fellow senior Dago Pena now has played in 112 games, placing him tied for 17th all-time with LaVerne Evans and Harold Simmons.
Pitts and Johnson both moved up the career points list with 1,426 and 1,137 respectively. That places Pitts at 16th and Johnson tied at 33rd all-time.
Four players had double-digit points for the ninth time this season.
A free throw percentage of 22 percent is the lowest for the Herd this year.
Pena shot himself into the top 10 for 3-point field goals made by making four, placing his career total at 136.
