Herd Set for the Pinehurst Spring Challenge

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall women's golf will hit the road during spring break for the 2012 Pinehurst Spring Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C. The event will take place on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday's competition will consist of a 36-hole round and will begin at 9:00 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. Tuesday's action will be an 18-hole round, starting at 8:45 a.m. ET.

The tournament will be played on the Pinehurst No. 6 golf course. The course is a par-72 5,993 yard set-up.

"This is a great course," said head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey. "The girls seem to be respoinding to it well. It is a great field and we are really looking forward to playing in nice weather."

The tournament field will consist of College of Charleston, East Carolina, Elon, Georgetown, James Madison, Maryland, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina State, UNCG, UNC-Wilmington, Old Dominion, Penn State, Richmond, Samford, Tennessee Tech and Western Michigan.

Traveling for the Herd will be senior Maria Battaglia (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands High School), junior Caitlyn Morrone (Pinehurst, N.C./Texarkana JC), junior Kristyn Morrone (Pinehurst, N.C./Texarkana JC) sophomore Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Ashland High School), sophomore Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington High School), and freshman Korakot Simsiriwong (Thailand/Starkville Academy).
